Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common liver disorder characterized by fat accumulation in liver cells, unrelated to alcohol consumption. Obesity is a significant risk factor for developing NAFLD due to increased fat deposition in the liver and the development of other obesity-related health conditions, such as insulin resistance.
Types of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
NAFLD can be categorized into two main types, with obesity playing a significant role in both:

Common Issues Associated with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

- Liver inflammation: The accumulation of fat in the liver can trigger inflammation, causing liver damage and impairing liver function.
- Fibrosis and cirrhosis: Chronic inflammation in the liver can lead to the development of fibrosis (scar tissue), which may progress to cirrhosis (advanced scarring) and result in liver failure.
- Liver cancer: NAFLD, particularly NASH, can increase the risk of developing liver cancer.
- Cardiovascular complications: NAFLD is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack and stroke.
Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Men

- Higher prevalence: Men have a higher prevalence of NAFLD compared to women, due to differences in body composition, fat distribution, and hormonal factors.

Worse than that I could see myself continuing on that path which was leading to more serious health issues and frankly a shorter life. For me, it was important to take a step towards getting my weight back down to where it should be and more importantly teaching myself new and healthier habits and mindset towards eating.
