Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): OSA is the most common form of sleep apnea and occurs when the muscles in the throat relax during sleep, causing the airway to become partially or completely blocked. Obesity can contribute to OSA by increasing the amount of fatty tissue in the throat and neck, which can narrow the airway and make it more susceptible to collapse.
Common Issues Associated with Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea related to obesity can lead to a range of difficulties and health complications, including:
- Excessive daytime sleepiness: Poor sleep quality caused by sleep apnea can lead to excessive daytime sleepiness, making it difficult to stay alert and focused during the day.

Worse than that I could see myself continuing on that path which was leading to more serious health issues and frankly a shorter life. For me, it was important to take a step towards getting my weight back down to where it should be and more importantly teaching myself new and healthier habits and mindset towards eating. Attending the meetings either in person or online go a long way to staying accountable and also help with emotional support to get you through the lows and the highs.
